Jace Bykari is a two-sport varsity standout in both football and baseball. The 6-foot catcher and middle infielder will attend the University of Jamestown next year on a baseball scholarship after graduating from Missoula Big Sky with honors. Bykari has been a part of the Mavericks organization for five years after growing up in Missoula playing for both the Missoula Mud Dawgs for three years, and westside little league during grade school. He has spent service time with the Mavs “B” team for two years, “A” team for one year, and the “AA” team for two years.
With his time on the AA squad, Bykari has caught just shy of 400 innings, and has racked up over 250 in the middle infield. He has a career batting average over .270 in over 400 plate appearances, and a career batting average over .300 with runners in scoring position. He has also racked up over 300 putouts and 100 assists while recording a career fielding percentage of .930.
His favorite memories from the Mavericks are from the annual trips to Rapid City for the 4th of July Firecracker tournament. “From go-karting to playing in front of thousands of fans in the fireworks games and beating a ‘nationally ranked’ team, they were the most fun baseball weekends I’ve experienced,” said Bykari. From his time in Missoula,
Bykari would like to thank the late Brian Di Salvatore, coach Hansen, and both coach Hathaway and Moser. “Brian was a joyful person who could always put a smile on my face even after a bad loss, and he cared about us a lot,” said Bykari.
