Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1885 John Ward and several teammates secretly form the Brotherhood of Professional Baseball Players, the first baseball union.

Basketball

  • In 1976 San Francisco’s Rick Barry begins then longest NBA free throw streak of 60.

Football

  • In 1939 NBC becomes first network to televise a pro football game, the Brooklyn Dodgers beat the Philadelphia Eagles 23-14 at Brooklyn’s Ebbets Field.

Golf

  • In 1935 at the Men’s PGA Championship Johnny Revolta wins his only major title, defeating Tommy Armour, 5 & 4.

Hockey

  • In 1966 ice hockey legend Bobby Orr scores his first career goal, it’s against the Montreal Canadians.
