- In 1955 at the Ryder Cup the US wins 8-4, Chick Harbert captains the Americans to 7th consecutive event victory.
NFL
- In 1929 Providence Steam Rollers become the first NFL team to host a game at night under floodlights, they lose 16-0 to the Chicago Cardinals at the Cycledrome in Providence, RI.
