Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1950 after nine years the Cleveland Indians fire manager Lou Boudreau.

Boxing

  • In 1983 ‘Marvelous’ Marvin Hagler retains world middleweight boxing title with a 15-round unanimous points decision over Roberto Durán at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, it’s the first time Hagler taken the distance as champion.

College Football

  • In 1945 college football’s #1 Army beats #2 Notre Dame 48-0.

Hockey

  • In 1963 Gordie Howe takes over NHL career goal lead at 545.

NFL

  • In 1957 Cleveland Browns’ Don Paul sets club record for longest fumble return with a 89-yard run (and TD), beating Pittsburgh 24-0.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1977 hte Major Indoor Soccer League is officially organized in New York City.
