Baseball

  • In 1956 the Dodgers trade Jackie Robinson to the Giants for pitcher Dick Littlefield and $35,000. Robinson retires rather than being traded.

College Basketball

  • In 1977 14 University of Evansville basketball players die in plane crash.

College Football

  • In 1997 the 63rd Heisman Trophy Award is given to Charles Woodson of Michigan (CB).

Miscellaneous

  • In 1960 Italy beats the US in Davis cup. It’s the first time in 24 years US not in the finals.

MMA

  • In 2015 Irishman Conor McGregor knocks out Brazilian Jose Aldo in 13 seconds to win his first featherweight title in Las Vegas.

NBA

  • In 1983 9,655 see highest-scoring NBA game when Detroit beats Denver 186-184 in 3 overtimes.

NFL

  • In 1936 the Boston Redskins play their NFL game, lose to Packers 21-6. The Redskins later moved to Washington, D.C..
