Baseball

  • In 1933 the baseball owners agree to ban Sunday doubleheaders until after June 15.

  • In 1925 the fist hockey game at Madison Square Garden is played, Montreal Canadiens 3, NY Americans 1.

College Basketball

  • In 1973 Tennessee beats Temple 11-6 in low scoring NCAA basketball game.

College Football

  • In 2002 the 68th Heisman Trophy Award is given to Carson Palmer of USC (QB).

Golf

  • In 2019 at the Presidents Cup the US wins 6 of the 12 final day singles with 4 tied to beat the International team, 16-14. It’s the eighth straight American victory.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1973 Sandy Hawley becomes the first jockey to win 500 races in 1 year.

NFL

  • In 1929 in the National Football League Championship game Green Bay Packers (12-0-1) win first past the post title.
