Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1913 Frank Chance becomes the New York Yankees manager.

College Basketball

  • In 1945 the University of Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball team sets an NCAA record by holding Arkansas State to 6 points in a 75-6 win.

College Football

  • In 2007 at the 9th BCS National Championship #2 Florida beats #1 Ohio State, 41-14.

Golf

  • In 1962 21 year old future Hall of Fame golfer Jack Nicklaus makes his first professional appearance, tied 50th in Los Angeles Open.

Hockey

  • In 1947 Toronto Maple Leaf rookie Howie Meeker scores 5 goals in a game.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1972 NCAA announces freshman can play on teams starting in fall.

NBA

  • In 1987 Milwaukee’s Jack Sikma begins NBA free throw streak of 51 games.

NFL

  • In 2000 “Music City Miracle”, in AFC Wild Card Playoff, Tennessee Titans defeat Buffalo Bills 22-16 in last 16 seconds with Kevin Dyson, running length of the field for a game-winning touchdown.
