Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1857 National Association of Baseball Players founded in New York.

Boxing

  • In 1960 Paul Pender beats Sugar Ray Robinson for middleweight boxing title.

Golf

  • In 1980 PGA begins a senior golf tour.

Hockey

  • In 1987 during a blizzard in New Jersey 334 attend Devils-Flame NHL game, New Jersey wins 7-5.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1905 Dutchman Coen de Koning wins the 1,500m, 5,000m and 10,000m at World Allround Speed Skating Championships in Groningen, Netherlands to become the second Dutchman to win a world title.

NBA

  • In 2006 Kobe Bryant scores 81 points in a 122-104 Lakers victory over the Toronto Raptors. It’s the second-highest game total in NBA history, behind only Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game (1962).

NFL

  • In 1953 at theNFL Draft: Harry Babcock from University of Georgia first pick by San Francisco 49ers.
