Baseball

  • In 1908 Connie Mack sells hurler Rube Waddell to St Louis Browns for $5,000.

College Basketball

  • In 1893 Vanderbilt University claims it participated in the first organised intercollegiate basketball game at the Nashville YMCA Gymnasium, Vanderbilt beat YMCA, 9-3.

Hockey

  • In 1973 is the first time Rangers shut-out Islanders 6-0.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1914 Charlie Chaplin debuts as a silent film character The Tramp in “Kid Auto Races at Venice”.

NBA

  • In 1988 in the 38th NBA All-Star Game East beats West, 138-133. The MVP goes to Michael Jordan, Chicago Bulls, F.

NFL

  • In 1988 NFL Pro Bowl AFC beats NFC, 15-6. The MVP goes to Bruce Smith, Buffalo Bills, DE.

Olympics

  • In 1998 XVIII Winter Olympic Games open in Nagano, Japan.
