Baseball

  • In 1960 Baseball uniforms begin displaying players’ names on their backs

Boxing

  • In 1986 Michael Spinks beats Larry Holmes in 15 for heavyweight boxing title

Golf

  • In 1992 PGA Seniors’ Championship Lee Trevino beats Mike Hill by 1 stroke for his 3rd seniors major title

Miscellaneous

  • In 1897 the first Boston Marathon (B.A.A. Road Race), won by John J. McDermott in 2:55:10. The world’s oldest annual marathon inspired by success of the first marathon at the 1896 Summer Olympics

NBA

  • In 1987 the LA Clippers end season with a terrible 12-70 record

NFL

  • In 1997 at the NFL Draft, Ohio State offensive tackle Orlando Pace first pick by St. Louis Rams

NHL

  • In 1947 after scoring 45 goals during the regular season, Maurice Richard is named MVP.
