• In 1908 Ed Ruelbach becomes the first person to pitch a doubleheader shutout in major league baseball

Golf

• In 1867 Men’s British Open, Tom Morris Sr. wins 4th title. Beats rival Willie Park Sr. by 2 strokes, at 46, Morris remains oldest Open champion

Miscellaneous

• In 1958 Columbia (US) beats Sceptre (Britain) in 18th America’s Cup
