Friday Night Gridiron Recap

Big Sky        8-2
Loyola         6-3
Sentinel       5-4
Hellgate       0-10

Week 10 in Missoula high school football was the final night of the regular season for three class AA teams and the Loyola Rams waiting until Saturday to play in the first round of the Class B Playoffs.

The Big Sky Eagles had a road trip east to the mining city to play the Bulldogs. Both teams picked up a touchdown in the opening quarter and if the rest of the game turned out to be played out the same the team with the ball last would get the win. Big Sky went on to score two unanswered touchdowns to go up 20-7 before the Bulldogs added their next score. Down 28-14 to start the third quarter Butte started with the ball and made the best of it making it interesting with a touchdown on their opening to drive to pull within seven points. The Eagles responded with a touchdown and kept their foot on the peddle to hold Butte off to earn a win.

The Loyola Rams will wait until Saturday to continue their football season hosting the Malta Mustangs at Rollin Field with kick off set for 1:00 pm.

Senior night was celebrated at Missoula County Stadium Friday night as the Sentinel Spartans hosted the Capital Bruins in a must win situation to stay alive in Class AA football. Luck looked to side with the Spartans Friday as they would recover a muffed punt in the first half to prevent a Bruin score, and intercepted the ball at the one yard line to prevent a Capital score. The machine called the Sentinel offense looked to be unstoppable only punting on three of their 10 possessions and Spencer Peppenger was two for two on field goals including a 43 yard field goal in the first quarter to help Sentinel earn the much needed win.

The Hellgate Knights finished their 2017 season on a positive note scoring three touchdowns against the Glacier Wolfpack. Glacier scored on three unanswered drives before the Knights found the end zone to make it 21-7. Hellgate scored for the second time on the game in the third quarter down 34-14. Glacier’s offense put in more work in the final quarter of the game to go up 48-14 before the Knights scored their final points of the season to fall 55-21 to Glacier.
