The most dominate force in Class AA girls’ basketball in the Sentinel Spartans hosted one of the steady growing basketball programs in the Flathead Bravettes meet on the basketball court Tuesday night and the Spartans came away with a 62-24 win.
Things looked bleak for the Bravettes out of the gate as Sentinel settled into their suffocating full court press and scored two quick buckets by stealing the inbound pass on back to back attempts in the opening minutes. Kylie Frohlich accounted for one steal and both the buckets that started the Lady Spartans on to a 28-5 first quarter.
Frohlich went on a scoring spree in the first quarter dropping six points in the paint and a seventh from the free throw line, and then added six more points in the second quarter to lead all scorers with 14 points in the first two quarters. Sentinel rolled out a second double digit quarter and had a commanding 36-8 lead at the half time break.
Sentinel returned their starters to the court for the third quarter and quickly Jordyn Schweyen went to work scoring four points and the Spartans piped off an 11 point third quarter. Coach Deden rotated in her bench players in to the game in the fourth quarter, keeping one starter on the court at all times. Junior starter Shelby Schweyen put up four points in the final frame, and Ashley McElmurry came of the bench to five put five on the board to aid in the win.
The Lady Spartans improve to a 5-0 record in the Western Class AA Conference, and 10-1 overall. Sentinel will return to the court Saturday to play the Glacier Wolfpack in Kalispell.
