The Glacier Wolfpack boy’s basketball team made the bus ride south from Kalispell to play the Sentinel Spartans and the Wolfpack went home with a 66-59 loss to the Spartans.
Sentinel came into the game off a 56-48 loss to the Flathead Braves last Tuesday and looked to get back on the horse and ride their dominance in Class AA boy’s basketball in the Western Conference. The Spartans boasted a perfect 5-0 record in front of their home crowd coming in to the game, and Glacier was 2-2 on the road.
Both teams had a hard time finding their rhythm out of the gate and the first points would not go on the board until 6:38 left in the first quarter when Drew Engellant slipped two through hoop at the free throw line. Sentinel earned their first bucket from long distance when Gage DeShazer dropped a three pointer, and the Spartans snapped to attention.
DeShazer went on to knock down five of his 10 shots from beyond the arc in the first half, and finished the night to score 12 points overall. The leading scorer of night came from the Spartans as Sam Beighle put up 36 points, going 12-24 from the free throw line, and earned his trips to the charity stripe off hard nosed basketball with 10 points in the paint in the second half.
The Spartans will now get ready for crosstown week as they will play the Eagles at Big Sky on Thursday night, and then host the Hellgate Knights on Saturday evening.
