Loyola Sweeps Troy

The Loyola Sacred-Heart boy’s and girl’s basketball teams played a make up game Monday against the Troy Trojans in Troy and Loyola swept the Trojans with Rams winning game one 98-33, and the Breakers winning game two 61-28.

The Rams played in the first game and Troy played tough in the opening minutes but Loyola found their legs and took off. In the first quarter Loyola had three players score six points, with Jacob Hollenback dropping eight. The Rams came out in the second quarter with their bench players on the court and Loyola continued their dominance on the court.

With a 52-17 lead at the half Coach Stack called the starters back in and the Rams put the pedal to floor, quickly the Trojans faced a running clock due to Loyola pushing out to a 40 point lead. Loyola once again rotated in their bench players in to start the fourth quarter and the back up players earned quality minutes to finish out the game.

The girls had the night cap and the Breakers took a cue from their male counter parts and earned a huge win over the lady Trojans of Troy. The opening quarter started out to be a shot for shot game until Loyola stepped up the  press and found themselves leading 17-12 at the end of the first frame of action. In the second quarter the Heart-Breakers clamped down on the defensive side of the court and held the Lady Trojans to four points.

At the start of the third quarter the Loyola Breakers held a comfortable 31-16 lead and Coach Walker began rotating his younger player for quality time on the court, while holding Troy to three points. Tessa Burke lead all scorers with 21 points and Sydney Koppang added 11 points. Kylie Esh was held scoreless in the first half but dropped two three pointers that kept the re surging Lady Trojans at bay.

Loyola will face Valley Christian on Tuesday night.
