On the final day of the 2018 Class B Divisional in Ronan the Loyola Breakers fought their way into the consolation game after losing their game Friday night.
The Breakers fell to the Bigfork Valkyries Friday night sending them to the consolation side of the bracket and faced the Eureka Lady Lions Saturday morning. In the morning game Loyola fought hard against an emerging Lady Lions team and on the shoulders of Tessa Burke the Breakers finished off Eureka with a 48-32 win. Syd Koppang dominated the paint in the second half knocking down six points in the paint, while Burke went 6-7 from the free throw line. Eureka tried to make a charge at the Breakers in the fourth quarter, but Coach Walker of the Breakers kept fresh legs on the court and out ran the Lady Lions head to the consolation game.
Moving on to the consolation game the Breakers would face their conference rival Florence Lady Falcons in a grudge match. The conference rivals fought hard in the opening quarter with he Breakers taking an 11-10 lead. Coach Zeiler of Florence made defensive adjustments at the period break and the Lady Falcons swung the momentum into their favor busy focusing their defense on Loyola’s Tessa Burke. With the Breakers scoring leader handcuffed Florence would use their one two punch of Makenna Liles and Danielle Zahn who scored a combined 12 points in the second half from the field to finish of Loyola’s season.
The Breakers finished their season with a fourth place showing at the tournament, and the Lady Falcons season came to an end with a third place finish in their division, both teams missing out on a trip to the Class B State Tournament in Missoula March 9-11.
