The Great Falls Chargers American Legion baseball team made a trip to Missoula Saturday to play the Missoula Mavericks in a doubleheader and the Mavericks sent the Chargers home with a pair of loses.
Game one was slow start for both teams with the Mavericks cracking the scoreboard when Parker Stevens knocked the first Mavericks home run over the fence to make it 1-0 Mavs. The Mavericks earned a second run before the inning finished out, but he Chargers bounced back in the fifth to even the score back up. Each team earned a run in the seventh inning to force extra innings and Missoula held off Great Falls in the top of the eighth for the walk off win. Mavericks ace Dylan Chalmers went the distance on the mound for Missoula, allowing three runs off seven hits and struck out three batters in the eight inning he pitched.
In the second game the Mavericks got out to an early start, opening the flood gates in the third inning earning four runs, and once again Great Falls rallied in the following inning to tie it back up at four a piece. Coach Hathaway went to the Maverick bull pen in the sixth inning and brought out Tradd Richardson to close out the game. Richardson stifled the Chargers batters in the final two frames to seal the victory for the Mavericks and moved their record above 500 to 5-3 with the win.
With rain in the forecast the Mavericks will host the turn around and host the Kalispell Lakers on Sunday in a doubleheader, first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm
