With clouds hovering above Blue Mountain on Sunday the Missoula Mavericks played host to the Kalispell Lakers and the Mavericks sent the Lakers packing with a pair of wins to extend the Mavs win streak to five in a row.

Reilly Vetos get the nod to start on the pitchers mound in the first game and the Mavericks let a couple runs go in the opening frame to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead. Vetos battled through the next two innings to keep the warm bats of the Lakers at bay, but the fourth inning turned out to be a struggle for Missoula’s infield when Kalispell went on a spree and earned four runs. It would not be until the late innings when the Mav bats began to light up, and with the wheels coming off the Lakers pitching staff MIssoula picked up a walk off when with a big single by Parker Stevens who scored two RBI’s to give the Mavericks the win.

The first game finished just the rain began which extended the between games break and with the rain slowing Coach Hathaway gave the signal to get the pitchers ready and the game got under way. Even as the game got under way the weather effested the players as the lead off batter for Kalispell Randy Stultz tossed his bat into the netting behind the plate on a strike swing with the second pitch. The Mavericks applied product to the field between innings, starting with the pitchers mound at the top of the second, and then again around home and first base in the top of the third. Regardless of how much dirt the Mavericks put on the field the relentless drizzle forced the umpires to call the game in the fifth inning to give the Mavericks their fifth straight win and improves their record to 7-3.

The Mavericks will take a couple days to polish their game before they face the undefeated Helena Senators on Wednesday night. First pitch from Lindborg-Cregg Field is at 7:00 pm and you can catch all the action right here on The Missoula Prep Sports Network.
