REPLAY

On a sunny Sunday the second full day of action got under way at the 2018 Missoula Maverick Memorial Day Weekend Tournament and it would be a full day of action that saw two teams find themselves in the drivers seat for the championship game Monday night.

Vauxhall Jets
Northern Lakes

The lead off game for the day started out as an even match through the first few innings, but once again in the mid innings the bats would come alive for the Jets and they would pick off the competition with a well battled win. For the Mountaineers who are an A level team from Northern Idaho played the tournaments top team with the best vigor since Friday nights opening game win over the host Missoula Mavericks. The win makes Vauxhall the masters over their own fate for a trip to the championship match.

Northern Lakes   0
Bozeman Bucks  9

Northern Lakes had the first doubleheader of the day as they faced the Bozeman Bucks in the second game of the day and Bozeman would flex their muscle to shutout the Mountaineers. The Bucks swung their bats hard in the opening two innings with the second inning being the dagger for Northern Lakes as Bozeman would earn seven. For the second game in a row it would be solid infield play for the Bucks that propelled them to an easy win in a tournament full of top shelf talent.

Helena Senators   8
Butte Miners         6

For game three on the day we would see two Montana-Alberta Conference teams battle on the diamond and the two inner league teams played the non conference game as if it was for the last seed going into the state tournament. Helena struck first scoring a run the top of the second, but Butte returned with a three in the bottom of the same inning. The Miners stayed aggressive and earned a pair of runs in the third to take the lead. The Senators took advantage of the Miners pitcher’s Liam Sommer’s slowing arm in the fourth and fifth innings to take a hold of the game and lead Butte 8-5. Helena allowed one run in the the final three innings to hold off the Miners and earn their first win of the tournament.

Helena Senators         8
Missoula Mavericks   4

The Missoula Mavericks would play host to the Helena Senators for the final game on the day and the Senators found their way to their second win of the tournament. Helena found themselves on the board out of the gate earning a run in the first two innings.  The Mavs earned their first run in the third inning to pull within one, and kept pace with the Senators in the sixth inning when the two teams each earned two runs. The final frame was the deciding factor with Helena adding four runs to their cause to the Maverick one, giving the Senators their first non conference win of the season over Missoula.
