The 2018 Memorial Day Weekend Tournament hosted by the Missoula Mavericks American Legion Baseball team came to a close Monday night with the 4-0 Bozeman Bucks taking on the 4-0 Vauxhall Jets in the championship game and the Jets would fly away from the Bucks.
Vauxhall put an all-star on the mound in the final game of the weekend in the bat slayer Adam Macko who pitched a near perfect game. Macko stood tall on the mound shutting out the Bucks, allowed two hits, walked a batter, and struck out six. Bozeman was doomed out of the gate as Macko struck out three of the first four batters in the game, and continued to stump the Bucks as the game played out.
From the dish the Jets kept up their consistency they had played with during the weekend earning a pair of runs in the opening frame. John Vulcano led all batters going 2-2 from the dish with a run and an RBI, while Liam Vulcano went 2-4 from the plate with a pair of RBI’s. The Jets capitalized on loaded bases in the third inning, earning runs off a loaded bases walk, and an error by the Bucks.
With the first tournament of the season for Butte, Bozeman, Helena, and Missoula in the books the four Montana/Alberta teams will start conference play next week.
