The American Legion Baseball conference season comes to an end this weekend for the Missoula Mavericks as they host the Lethbridge Elks in a three game series and the Elks took the first game away from the Mavs.
For the first time on the season the two longest tenured managers in the conference faced off and the Elks would bring their “A” game to Missoula. Lethbridge opened up the game with a pair of runs in the first frame to take the lead and never looked back from there. The Elks Ty Penner led all batters going .750 with a two RBI’s, while the Mavericks veteran infielder James Martin came away with a good night going 2-3 with a run and an RBI.
On the defensive side of the diamond the Elks played a flawless game not commiting an error, but Missoula struggled giving up three errors that earned the elks three runs. From the bump Thomas Martin allowed nine runs off 11 hits, five of the runs were earned, and walked three batters while striking out one. Tradd Richardson came in for the Mavs in the sixth inning for Missoula and capped off the runs for Lethbridge while only allowing a single hit in the two innings he pitched.
The two teams will line up and play again Sunday with first pitch of the doubleheader being thrown out at noon.
