For the first home game of the season the Loyola Breakers volleyball team played host to the Bigfork Valkyries and the youthful Breakers took the seasoned Vals to four games before Bigfork took the match three sets to one.
Loyola started out slow as the Vals would take off to earn seven points before the Breakers got on the board with a point in the first match. From there Loyola fought valiantly chipping away at the Bigfork lead one point at a time, but Bigfork had jumped out to big of a led for the Breakers in the first match and the Vals won the match 25-12.
In the second match it was Loyola who was the aggressor coming out and going on a 6-1 run, forcing Bigfork Coach Schuyler Tudor to call a timeout and refocused her girls. Bigfork came out of the timeout and went on a run making it a one point match, going back and forth until the Vals held the lead at 11-10 and broke away to win the second match 25-17.
Using the momentum from the second match the pendulum seemed to swing in the favor of the Breakers and for the second match in a row Loyola owned the opening minutes. Once again the Vals and the Breakers fought back and forth keeping the match at no more then one point difference and with the game tight and the score at 11-10 Loyola, the Breakers broke away and cruised pasted the Valkyries to a 25-17 win over Bigfork.
Forcing the night to a fourth match the Breakers kept the first part of the final match tight and with the score at three a piece Bigfork went on a five point run to lead 8-5. From there Loyola went on a run of their own picking up 10 unanswered points to take the lead back, and held unto the lead for the second game in a row, but the veteran Vals went to work and with the match at 21-17 Bigfork mounted a comeback. Moments later the Vals had fought their way back into the match tying it up 23 all, and with dramatic fashion Bigfork clawed their way past Loyola and squeezed out 27-25 win to to take the night.
