It’s hard to believe that the first crosstown game of the 2018-2019 high school sports season is upon us when the Big Sky Eagles and the Sentinel Spartans play in a 2017 first round playoff football game rematch Friday night.
Big Sky started their 2018 football campaign last Thursday night in Billings against the West Golden Bears and the Eagles opened the season with a tough loss to West. The Eagles lost their offensive work horse in Levi Janacaro and defensive spark plug in Tyler Flink to graduation in the spring, but have a fresh group ready to take on the Class AA Western Conference. Junior Jett Rebish will try to fill the shoes that Janacaro left behind at the running back position while senior quarterback Andrew Gardanier will try to make the Eagles passing game soar through the air.
The Sentinel Spartans begin their path to the postseason with an opening night win over the skyview Falcons and the Spartans return the most veteran group of players in Montana Class AA football. Coming off a run deep into the playoffs in 2017 Sentinel brings back the arm of Rylan Ortt who will have the support from the ground game with the shifty feet of Elias Dewaters in his hip pocket. Ortt will has a stable full of receivers to throw to as the Spartans return the versatile Brendon Hill and the sticky fingers of Parker Stevens to make the Spartan offence a dual threat.
Kickoff for the game is at 7:00 pm on Friday night from Missoula County Public Schools Stadium located behind Big Sky high school on South Avenue.
