On a sunny Tuesday afternoon Loyola Sacred-Heart hoped on the bus and headed south to play the Hamilton Broncs and the two schools would split the day.
Girls 4-3 Broncs
It would be ladies first and looked to be good game from out of the gate as both teams went on the attack, taking shots on break away runs and controlled set pieces alike. Hamilton took the early lead getting on the board first, but Loyola answered back with a Syd Koppang penalty kick. The schools battled back and forth through the remainder of the first half, with each team scoring two goals in the opening 80 minutes of the game.
With the game tied at two to start the second half it was Hamilton that pushed ball despite the Breakers getting it in the opening kick. Hamilton’s junior forward Rylee Wiediger scored two goals in the second half to finish the day with a hat trick. The Breakers junior forward Syd Koppang connected with a penalty kick and Loyola pulled within one of the Broncs. Loyola freshman mid-fielder Lani Walker kept up the attack for the Breakers as she would take over half the shots for Loyola, and feed Koppang on the lead pass.
Boys 2-0 Rams
In the second game between the boys the ball would be played in the middle third of the field for close, shots coming at minimal opportunities. It was not until the third minute of the first half that the ball would find its way in the back of the net off the skilled foot of Jack Lincoln, putting Loyola on there board first. The Rams held on through a onslaught by Hamilton fast breaks and Loyola led at the half 1-0.
Hamilton came out of the period break with a purpose in their strut and pushed the ball onto the Loyola half of the field. As the first half had gone the two schools fought in the middle of the field, with a minimum amount of shots taken on goal. In the sixth minute the Rams would benefit off a corner kick and on the deflection Zach Tyree put in the ball in the goal.
