Rams and Breakers Sweep Frenchtown

On a cloudy Tuesday afternoon the Frenchtown Broncs and the Loyola Sacred-Heart soccer programs met on the soccer pitch at Rollin Field and the Rams found their first victory over the Frenchtown boys at Rollin Field, and the Breakers shut out the Frenchtown girls.

It was the boys who kicked off with the first game with Frenchtown dominating the time of possession in the first half. The game was played between the goalie boxes as both teams kept the ball in the middle of the field with minimal shots coming. In the 12th minute of the first half Loyola’s Austin Ogilvie would break lose and find the back of the net to earn the first goal of the game.

With a 1-0 lead to start the second half Loyola found themselves playing defense once again, trying to maintain the lead and not make any mistakes to give up a goal. Time began to become the Broncs enemy, so they made a few changes on the field and pressed the attack on Loyola and in the seventh minute Bronc mid-fielder Jeff Jacobs put the ball on goal and tied the game up at one apiece. Then just moments after the clock was stopped at the 2:00 minute mark Ogilvie added a goal to his tally putting the ball in on a ricochet, and the Rams went on to upset the Broncs 2-1.

The second match of the day was a far different game then the first as the Breakers shutout the Broncs 8-0. It took ten minutes before the first goal was scored off the foot of Breaker striker Sydney Koppang, she would go on to score two of Loyola’s goals on the day. Mid-fielder Lani Walker scored the Breaker second goal as she put the ball in the back of the net three minutes after Koppang scored her goal, the freshman phenomenon finished the day with four goals. The Breakers lone senior Emma Daniel scored a goal for Loyola, and Carlin Lechner found her way into the stat book with a goal.

Loyola will go back on the road Saturday as they take on the Blue Devils in Corvallis.
