Rams Pick Off Wardens To Open Conference Play

In Montana mid September means it is time to get into conference play in prep football and the Loyola Rams did so with a powerful statement beating the Deer Lodge Wardens 47-14.

It looked ugly from the opening kick off for Deer Lodge as Loyola would put points on the board before the clock had a single tick taken off with a Warden miscue that resulted in a safety. Of the six drives the Rams had in the first half Loyola would score on four of them, the first drive resulted in Loyola turning the ball over on fourth down by coming up a yard short for the first down, and the final drive of the half would come with .09 left on the clock and Loyola took a knee to end the half. Deer Lodge scored their first touchdown of the game late in the second quarter off a brother to brother passing play with senior wide receiver Greydon Nicholson passing the ball to his younger brother Logan Nicholson.

With a hefty lead the Rams would get the ball to start the second half and just like the Wardens did on Loyola opening drive when Loyola was stopped short, forcing Loyola to punt for the first time in the game. The field position would be set on the punt as Bruce Danielson would have a coffin kick stranding Deer Lodge at the seven yard line. Three plays later the Wardens were forced to punt setting the Rams up at the Deer Lodge 15 yard line, it only took one play for Loyola to score when Nick Mitzel threw a laser to Cooper Waters  for the touchdown. In all Waters would have five touchdowns on the game, one on the ground, three threw the air, and a punt return in the third quarter that resulted in seven points for the Rams.

Loyola moves to 3-1 on the season going into next weeks battle against a talented Eureka team.
