We are grinding toward the heart of the prep sports season for most sports, but for some high school sports the end is looming near. This weeks prep spotlight takes a look at a crosstown match on the volleyball court on Saturday afternoon.
On Saturday afternoon the Hellgate volleyball team will head across the Missoula Valley to play the Big Sky Eagles. The Knights will have a tough task this week with a match on Tuesday night against the polished Sentinel Spartans who are playing their way back to a state title, but have a chance to get a win against Big Sky. Hellgate is progressing step by step as they work their way through the season under head coach Matty Hancock and Hellgate’s lone win this season came at the Great Falls Invite on September 7th two matches to one over Flathead, but they have a chance to put a check under the “W” column on Saturday afternoon against the Eagles.
Like the Knights the Big Sky Eagle volleyball team is struggling in the early part of the season, not to mention to start conference play in Class AA volleyball. The Eagles are playing under the leadership of a new coach, Mathew Pimentel after they finished last season under a interim head coach. Coach Pimentel took over a young team that lost a talented group of seniors who kept the Eagles alive in Class AA volleyball through the 2017 volleyball season. Big Sky is coming off a pair of losses and are looking to grab a win against their crosstown foe, but will need to trust in their new coaches leadership to win their first crosstown match of the season.
And that is this weeks Weekly Prep Spotlight.
