At the midway point in the 2018 fall prep soccer season the Hamilton Broncs made their way north to play Loyola Sacred-Heart and the teams split the day with the Rams falling to the Broncs 2-1, and the Breakers held off Hamilton in a 4-1 victory.
It was the boys who kicked things off on the soccer pitch with the game being played tight between the 18 yard boxes. From the beginning it was obvious it was going to be a close game as the two teams fought for the ball in the middle of the pitch, only a total of a combined 10 shots where taken in the first half, three from Hamilton. With the game tied at a goal a piece to start the second half Hamilton came out charged putting the pressure on the Rams, and in the 36 minute Bronc Austin Drake put the ball in the back of the net to give Hamilton the edge to come away with the win.
For the second game it was a match of revenge for the Breakers, partly for the boys match before hand, and for the one they played in Hamilton a few weeks ago where they left goals on the pitch. As the first game had started the girls followed suite playing the ball down the middle of the field, minimal shots on goal, and a lot of throw ins. It was not until the first half ticked into the two minute stoppage time when the ball found its way past the keeper when Loyola freshman phenomenon Lani Walker scored the first of her three goals. Sydney Koppang capped the game off in the 17th minute when a hand ball was called in the box giving the Breakers a penalty kick, putting an exclamation mark on the match.
Loyola will host their Class B counterpart, the Bigfork Vikings and Vals on Saturday with the girls playing first at 11:00 am, and the boys face off at 1:00 pm.
