Friday nights football game under the lights between the Eureka Lions and the Loyola Rams at Rollin Field was not what the majority in the crowd had a expected from the second conference game of the season as the Rams snuffed out the Lions with a 56-12 victory.
Right from the start it was obvious that Eureka was out gunned as they would go three and out to punt the ball into the waiting arms of Cooper Waters who broke a punt return for a touchdown last week. Loyola lined up in a double tight formation for the first play with Waters and Bryce Danielson as the single receiver to either side, the Lions showed blitz heavy from the right side so Mitzel tossed the ball to the the left to Danielson who took it to the house for a 60 yard touchdown.
That is how the game went for the Lions who struggled to contain the Rams front seven at the line of scrimmage, pressure from the Loyola defensive front caused Eureka’s Hank Dunn to throw the ball to the Rams three times, and the Loyola defense caused three fumbles for a total of six turnovers on the night. In all the two teams would have a total of 10 drives in the first quarter, with the Rams Ryan Tirrell scoring on the ground three of Loyola’s five possessions in the opening quarter.
The Rams will enjoy a week off before heading back out on the road to play Thompson Falls next Friday night.
