The final week of high school sports in 2018 played out over the past week with a star emerging on the wrestling mat, swimmers made waves in the pool, and identities began to emerge on the hardwood.
We begin with wrestling this week where a young wrestler at Big Sky began to flex his muscle and dominate in his weight class as Big Sky’s Doug Swanson continued his streak on the mat. Sentinel had their strongest showing of the season this past week as they had a good night against Flathead.
Our swimmers had a busy week as they finished the their last days in the classroom for 2018 while preparing for the coaches invite on Thursday night. Hellgate still commands the field in the pool, but the Spartans squad is making waves to show they are a team to be reckoned with.
For girls basketball it was a week that showed that there are a few new competitive teams in prep basketball. Two teams that have been on the rise over the past few seasons in the Loyola Breakers and the Hellgate Knights found victories in many ways, specifically in the Breakers who beat the Bigfork Valkyries for the firs time in a long stretch.
Boys basketball in Missoula found the Valley Christian Eagles having a strong showing against Hot Springs with a convincing win, and the Loyola Rams scrapped one out against Bigfork. Sentinel played an East West powerhouse game against Bozeman to close out 2018 and hung with the lanky Hawks with a strong presences on the boards at both ends of the court.
