5th Place Firecracker Finish

The Missoula Mavericks Legion baseball team would finish fifth at the Post 22 Firecracker Tournament in Rapid City South Dakota over the Fourth of July Weekend.

Missoula would pick up two wins in the tournament leading up to championship Tuesday, beating Las Vegas 6-2 on Friday, and then shutting out Yakima 7-0 on Sunday. With their two wins the Mavericks would find themselves playing for 5th place against Mountain West on Tuesday, and a chance to get back at a team that had bested Missouls 7-4 the day before.

In the final game of the tournament for the Mavericks, Coach Hathaway would put the ball into the hands of Dylan Barkley. The veteran pitcher would not disappoint his manager and shut out Mountain West in his 5 2/3 innings on the mound, striking out seven batters and allowing three hits. From the plate veteran Mavs Nick Yovetich, Ryan McHugh, and Spencer Schock would lead the charge in the 7-0 win.

The Mavericks will have a brief break before jumping on the bus to Bozeman on Friday for a two day stand against the Bucs.
