Mountain Cats Take Two From Valley Christian

Looking to bounce back from a pair of loses on Tuesday night to Lincoln the Valley Christian Eagles hosted the Clark Fork Mountain Cats for their second of three home doubleheaders this week and the Mountain Cats took both games.

It was ladies first on the hardwood with Clark Fork coming out hot on both ends of the court, dropping 23 points on the Lady Eagles in the opening quarter. On the defensive end of the court the Lady Mountain Cats held Valley Christian to six points in each of the first two quarters, with the bucket not going down for the Lady Eagles until 2:38 remained to make it 17-2.

Up 34-12 at the half time break the Mountain Cats came out just as tenuous defensively as they did to start the game by holding the Valley Christian girls to two points in the third quarter. The Lady Eagles gained some ground in the final quarter on Clark Fork with 11 points, but the opening quarter run by the Lady Mountain Cats, and rough third quarter was to high of a hill to climb and Clark Fork coasted to a 60-25 win.

When the boys hit the hardwood Valley Christian was able to get into a rhythm in the first quarter, feeding of off Riley Reimer’s energy who was all over the boards on both ends of the court. It was the second quarter where Riley took off to when you scored six points in the paint, driving the Eagles to take the lead, but a buzzer beater lay up swung the lead back to Clark Fork to end the first half.

Down by one point to begin the third quarter Riley went back to work and scored the first points of the quarter off a baseline jumper, but the Mountain Cats settled into to their defensive adjustments and stormed back to retake and hold the lead. With the Mountain Cats leading by six to start the final frame Coach DeGroot went to his bench and put Brennan Cox in who knocked down back to back three points to put Valley Christian back in the game. Tied at 44 with with just under 10 seconds left the Mountain Cats drained a jumper to sneak away with a 46-44 win.
