One of Missoula’s hidden gems is loading up collegiate team rosters as Frenctown high school’s Tradd Richardson joins a growing list of Missoula Maverick players who will continue their baseball career at the next level.
Richardson is a duel threat athlete as he is an All-State soccer player in the fall for the Frenchtown Broncs, and then transfers his abilities to the baseball diamond in the summer as a part of Missoula’s lone American Legion baseball team in the Mavericks. Since he first stepped on the soccer pitch for the Broncs Tradd has been the last line of defense for the Broncs on the soccer pitch, earning him recognition at the All-Conference and All-State levels.
Tradd joins a group of Mavs who are going to get the opportunity to take a step further in living out their child hood dream by playing baseball at Lassen Community College in Susanville California while he studies sports medicine. When asked what stuck out about Lassen over the other schools Richardson replied, “The thing that stuck out the most was the fact that in the coaches time he’s been there he has never had a kid not graduate or move onto a four year school.”
The Frenchtown senior is multi positional player for the Mavericks as he was the starting third baseman, hung out behind the plate as a lock down catcher, and was part of the regular rotation in the maverick pitching staff last season. Tradd talks about if the choice to further his career on the diamond effected his play over last summer, “Honestly I don’t think it effected how I played, I always go out and play as hard as I can.”
Though Richardson could have played soccer at the college level, baseball has always ruled his heart, “After I started playing more I feel in love with the mental aspect of the game.” Tradd is currently preparing for the upcoming season with the Mavs as the team is working in their indoor facility.
