Big Sky, Hellgate, and Sentinel went to Great Falls Saturday to participate in the Class AA Duels where they faced off against the beef of Class AA wrestling. It was a tough weekend for all three schools as a team, but individuals found success on the mat. The Sentinel and Hellgate wrestling teams worked their as far as the round robin portion of the duels before they finished the day while the Big Sky/Loyola co-op battled their way to the fifth place round where they fell to Flathead.
Swimming
In the pool high school swimmers are preparing for the final weeks of regular season competition before the MHSA state swimming tournament. All three Missoula Class AA schools hoped on the bus and made the trek to Butte for an event at the Butte YMCA. One swimmer that stood out for the Missoula schools was Sentinel Spartan Dylan Faust who took the boys 100 yard Butterfly event with a time of 56.17 seconds.
Girls Basketball
It was an electrifying week of girls basketball at the Class AA level as all three Missoula schools would participate in the first set of Missoula title games of the season. Thursday night was a battle at Big Sky between the Lady Eagles and the Lady Spartans where Sentinel edged out Big Sky in a game that started out close but became a run away train. On Saturday night the Lady Spartans played host to the Lady Knights where Hellgate stole a win from the Sentinel girls for the first time since 2003.
Over at Loyola the Breakers worked on strengthening their resume as they hosted a pair of conference games. First on Friday night Loyola took on the Deer Lodge Lady Wardens and the Breakers worked their way out of a whole to come away with a win. Saturday brought Loyola their biggest test of the season as the Florence Lady Falcons stepped into the RAC and left with a hard fought win.
Boys Basketball
Thursday kicked off a pair of crosstown doubleheaders between the three Missoula Class AA schools as the Big Sky Eagles hosted the Sentinel Spartans in a game that did not go well for the Eagles who fell by 40 points. Saturday brought the Hellgate Knights over to Sentinel for a game that Sentinel looked to sweep the week, but Hellgate had a plan their own which played out to a 30 point drubbing of the Spartans.
The Loyola Rams are charging their way towards a top seeding at the divisional tournament in hopes it will help them make a move to the Class B state basketball tournament. Friday night was a road trip to Deer Lodge to take on the Wardens in conference play and the Rams rolled their way through town with a victory. On Saturday night Loyola played host to conference rival Florence and the Falcons gave a valiant fight at the beginning but the Ram’s defense was to much and Loyola walked away with a lop sided win.
