In this weeks Prep Weekly Spotlight we take a look at the first step towards the end of the winter sports season as the Big Sky Eagle wrestling program will host the AA Divisional Tournament Saturday.
Starting off with the host team, the Eagles are coming off winning the Garden City Classic where they were crowned the city champions after beating both Sentinel and Hellgate in a clean sweep. Big Sky is led by a trio of athletes in Hunter Meinzen, Dougie Swanson, and Jett Rebish who are peaking at the perfect time of the season as the team heads into the final stretch. Expect these three athletes to put the Eagles into a position to be successful at the state wrestling tournament.
The Sentinel Spartan wrestling program has been building steam through the 2018-2019 season as one of the top western contenders in MHSA Class AA wrestling by picking up key victories against strong opponents. Going into the AA Divisional the Spartans will have a strong stable full of wrestlers this weekend led by Byrson Danzinger, Conall Powers, and Luke Joy. As one of the more historic wrestling programs in the state of Montana you can never count out the Spartans making a splash at the state tournament.
For the Hellgate Knights wrestling program the 2018-2019 season has been a one step further up the ladder in building a successful team. With low numbers the Knights have been able to show that they are team to contend with behind the gritty wrestler Bridger Hall who has been a force on the mat. With the AA Divisional Tournament in their home town the Knights will have the opportunity to increase their numbers by having a top notch turnout Saturday.
Things will get under way Saturday from Big Sky with weigh ins st 9:00 am and the wrestling will begin shortly after.
