As the month of February slowly comes to an end we near the final leg of the winter sports season which brings us to the Class B Western Divisional Tournament for this weeks Prep Weekly Spotlight.
Ladies First…
For the Florence girls it is their tournament to lose as they are the Lady Falcons are the top team in the division. From there it is any bodies game to take the second place spot with the Loyola Breakers the best team to do so, but there could be a challenge from Deer Lodge and Anaconda as they are surging to at he right time of the season.
The tournament will tip off with Eureka and Anaconda playing the 8:00 am game, the winner will face the winner of the Thompson Falls Loyola game that will go down 20 minutes after the Eureka game. After the two morning games are played by the girls the boys will have their opening games with Florence taking on Mission at 4:00 pm. The winner of that game will have the winner of the Deer Lodge Bigfork game following the 4:00 pm game. All games will be played at the Ronan Event Center with the championship game for the girls being played Saturday night at 6:30 pm.
And Now For the Boys…
Their are four teams that have potential to represent the wast out of the Western Class B Division with Loyola and Bigfork standing at the top of the hill. Both Deer Lodge and Mission have been a thorn in the side of all teams in the conference and have a good chance to challenge the Rams and the Vikings for a run at state. The boys from Eureka can challenge the four teams at the top, and one can never count out the Anaconda Copperheads as they have the ability to wrench in the whole bracket.
The boy’s will get their tournament started with the Loyola Rams taking on their conference rival Florence Falcons who made their way into the tournament with a dramatic entrance on Monday night. Deer Lodge and Thompson Falls will get under way 20 minutes after the first boys game with the winners meeting Friday night. The two night cap games will be played by the boys as Bigfork and Anaconda get the 7:20 pm game, with Eureka and Mission finishing the night off. Friday’s semi final games will be played at 7:20 pm and 9:00 pm at the Ronan Event Center, and the Championship game will tip off at 8:30 pm Saturday.
