Breakers Join Lady Falcons At Class B State Tournament

After falling to Florence on Saturday night in the Class B Western Divisional girls basketball championship game the Loyola Breakers would be challenged by Deer Lodge for the second place spot and Tuesday night Loyola broke the Lady Wardens hearts with a 52-34 win.

To open the game the two teams swapped buckets until Loyola dug in with their defense to slow down the Lady Wardens. Coming out with the hot hand was Sydney Koppang who led the Breakers with 11 points in the first half. Playing team defense Loyola was able to keep the Lady Wardens offense at bay, holding Deer Lodge to 13 points in the first half.

Holding on to a 15 point lead to start the third quarter the Breakers came out with a new game plan to help them come away with a win. Loyola began relying on the passing game to keep the ball out of the Lady Wardens hands in order to hold on to the lead. Having to tighten up their defense in order to get a chance to get the ball back the Lady Wardens ran into foul trouble late in the game, sending the Breakers shooters to the line with Loyola capitalizing by shooting 70% from the free throw line.

With the win the Breakers join the Florence Lady Falcons to represent the west at the Class B state tournament.
