The Missoula prep softball season will start on Thursday as the Frenchtown Lady Broncs will take on the Sentinel Lady Spartans in a game that was originally scheduled for last Tuesday.
Sentinel is coming off a season where the Lady Spartans went 18-7 overall, and finished the conference schedule at 9-3 to go into the state softball tournament number two out of the west. After falling to Great Falls in the second round of the stat tournament, Sentinel would play their way into the championship game to face the Bison for the second time on the weekend and finished second overall.
The Spartans lost nine players from last season from graduation, one of which is currently making a splash on the Montana Lady Griz softball team. Head softball coach Dustin Delridge returns for his third season guiding Sentinel’s softball program with a group of young players that are made up of a majority of freshman and sophomores.
A season opener against a talented Frenchtown team will be the perfect primer for the Lady Spartans. The Lady Broncs are coming off a similar season as Sentinel, only falling one game short of playing for a state title to place third overall in 2018. With both teams seeing limited time on the field before Thursday’s game expect there to be a slow start to a game that will be hinged on who can get the bats cracking.
