As the sun clears the local softball fields off of lingering snow, and only a handful of teams getting into action the Florence Falcon softball team is waiting in a holding pattern to get back on the march to a back to back state title run.
After dominating the regular season in 2018 the Falcons found themselves in the top spot out of the west heading into the state tournament. Once reaching the state B/C state softball tournament Florence tore their way through the competition to play in the championship game where they shut out Huntley Project to bring home first place hardware.
Fast forward to the spring of 2019 and the Falcons have a brand new diamond for six seniors to lead a team that is no stranger to the postseason. Despite their leadership and experience Florence will have to navigate through a much improved Western B/C Division.
Just as many softball teams across the western side of the state the Falcons have been waiting for field conditions to improve, having had their game against Loyola on Tuesday rescheduled for April 29th, Florence will officially kick off their season on the road Thursday as they take on the Troy Trojans in Troy.
