Big Fifth Inning For Falcons Seals The Breakers Fate

The Loyola Breakers had their second road trip in as many days with a trip to Florence to take on the reigning state softball champion Falcons and the Breakers would come away with a loss.

Loyola wold get on the board first with a pair of runs in the opening inning, one coming off a Kayla Hickethier single. THe game would come down to three crucial plays, all against the Breakers. The first key play came in the top of the third when Hickethier had a home run lined up with  a pair of runners on, but Falcon left fielder Rilee Mangun picked the ball off just as it made it’s way over the fence.

The second play would come in the bottom of the same inning with the bases loaded for Florence with one out when Kassidy Yeoman cleared the bases with a big triple, giving Florence the lead for the first time. In the bottom of the fourth inning the final key play happened when Falcon Shannon Byrne stepped to the plate and a ball come off the bat with eyes on it that allowed the pitcher to earn an in the park home run.

Neither team would earn runs in the remaining innings, and the Falcons would come away with a win over the Breakers.
