Long Time Local Volunteer Gets Life Time Honor

One of Missoula’s long time volunteers and sports official Max E. Cannon Jr. will be honored this weekend for his long time service to the Missoula Little League Baseball Program.

On Saturday April 27th Max will be honored by the Mount Sentinel Little League by naming one of the fields after him. Field #10 at the Mount Sentinel Little League Sports Complex will forever be known as Cannon Field #10 due to Max’s dedication to our youth athletes.

As a 10 year old Max began his path down the road of baseball when he played his first little league baseball game on field #10 at the Mount Sentinel Sports Complex, not knowing that it would become a lifetime passion. Fast forward to 2019 and Max is entering into his 40th year as an adult volunteer for the Little League Program.

From early spring to late summer Max splits his time between the fields of the Mount Sentinel Little League Complex officiating and organizing, working umpire clinics throughout the state, and behind the plate for the local Legion Baseball program, the Missoula Mavericks.

In addition to his time working with Missoula’s youth baseball players Max also is a basketball official throughout the winter for the various AAU tournaments in Missoula. The field dedication is not the only honor Max has received this year, Max will be heading to Portland Oregon later this summer to officiate the 2019 Little League Softball World Series.

Games will begin at 10:00 am Saturday morning at the Mount Sentinel Little League Complex, a break in the action will happen at 12:00 pm to dedicate field #10 in Max’s honor, and then games will resume with Minor A games, with Max umpiring the game on Cannon Field field #10 where it all began 50 years ago.
