Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1912 American League President Ban Johnson informs the Tigers that if they continue to protest Ty Cobb’s suspension they will be banned from baseball.

Boxing

  • In 1909 Jack Johnson fights Jack O’Brien in a no decision six round bout for the boxing title.

Football

  • In 1935 the National Football League (NFL) adopts an annual college draft which will begin in 1936.

Hockey

  • In 1974 in their first finals appearance the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Boston Bruins 1-0 take the Stanley Cup Final 4-2.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1905 Tom Jenkins beats Frank Gotcha for the wrestling heavyweight championship.
