Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1940 two baseball parks have their first night games ever with the Cleveland Indians beating the St Louis Browns at St. Louis Sports man Park, and the New York Giants knocking off the Boston Bees at Polo Grounds in New York.

Boxing

  • In 1968 American boxer Bob Foster defeats title holder Dick Tiger for the world light-heavyweight Championship at Madison Square Gardens in New York, Foster would go on to defend title 14 times.

Football

  • In 1967 the American Football League (AFL) grants a franchise to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Hockey

  • In 1980 in their first Stanley Cup Final appearance the New York Islanders beat the Philadelphia Flyers, 5-4 in OT for a 4 games to 2 series win.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1964 during a game between Argentina and Peru panic ensues at the Lima Peru soccer stadium killing 300 people.
