Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1988 New York Yankee Rickey Henderson steals 2 bases for a record 249 as a Yankee.

Football

  • In 1974 the NFL grants a franchise to the Seattle Seahawks.

Golf

  • In 1927 in the first Ryder Cup Golf, Worcester CC, the US beats Great Britain 9½-2½; Walter Hagen is the first American captain; Ted Ray is the first GB skipper.

Hockey

  • In 2008 the Stanley Cup Final at the Civic Center Pittsburgh, PA the Detroit Red Wings defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 for a 4-2 series win. The Red Wings’ win their 11th Championship.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1941 the Nazis forbid Jews access to beaches & swimming pools.
