Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1901 NY Giants get a record 31 hits to beat the Cincinnati Reds 25-13.

Boxing

  • In 1899 James J. Jeffries KOs Bob Fitzsimmons in 11 rounds for heavyweight boxing title.

Basketball

  • In 1985 the LA Lakers beat the Boston Celtics 4 games to 2 for the 39th NBA Championship.

Football

  • In 1960 ABC and AFL sign a 5 year contract.

Golf

  • In 1940 Lawson Little defeats Gene Sarazen by 3 strokes in an 18-hole playoff to win his only professional major title for the US Open Men’s Golf.

Hockey

  • In 1993 the Montreal Canadiens beat LA Kings, 4-1 for a 4-1 series win, it’s the Canadians Canadians’ 24th SC Championship.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1991 at the French Open Men’s Tennis Jim Courier wins his first career Grand Slam title by beating fellow American Andre Agassi 3-6, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.
