  • In 1968 Joe Frazier TKOs Manuel Ramos in the second round for the heavyweight boxing title.

  • In 1922 the American Professional Football Association renamed the National Football League.

Golf

  • In 1928 at the US Open Men’s Golf Johnny Farrell defeats amateur Bobby Jones by 1 stroke in a 36-hole playoff to win his only major title.

Hockey

  • In 1991 NHL adopts instant-replay and tenth of second clock in final minute.

  • In 2012 female athletes will be allowed to compete for Saudi Arabia at the Olympics for the first time.
