Baseball

  • In 1961 Willie Mays is the fourth major league baseball player with three or more home runs twice in a season.

Basketball

  • In 1994 in the NBA Draft Purdue small forward Glenn Robinson is the first pick, going to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Boxing

  • In 1933 Primo Carnera KOs Jack Sharkey in six rounds for the heavyweight boxing title.

Golf

  • In 1986 Dale Douglass wins the US Senior Open by one stroke ahead of Gary Player for his lone Champions Tour major title.

Hockey

  • In 1992 NHL decides Eric Lindross goes to Flyers instead of Rangers.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1995 George Foreman loses IBF boxing title for refusing to re-fight Axel Schulz.

Soccer

  • In 1950 the US beats England 1-0 in a World Cup soccer game, the US’s next win doesn’t come until the 1994 World Cup.
