  • In 1946 at the British Open, in first post-WWII Championship, Sam Snead wins his only Open title, 4 strokes clear of runners-up Johnny Bulla & Bobby Locke.

  • In 1991 MLB owners approve Colorado Rockies and Florida Marlins as new NL franchises to start play in 1993.

Soccer

  • In 2015 at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Final Carli Lloyd scores a hat-trick as US beats Japan 5-2.
