Baseball

  • In 1901 Cy Young wins his 300th game.

Basketball

  • In 1996 Michael Jordan signs an NBA contract for one year for $25 million.

Football

  • In 1949 the LA Rams sign Norm Van Brocklin.

Golf

  • In 1930 defending champion Bobby Jones wins record-tying 4th US Open title by 2 strokes from Macdonald Smith, it’s Jones’ third consecutive major title.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1928 the first tennis match is televised.

Soccer

  • In 1998 at the FIFA World Cup Final in Stade de France, Saint-Denis: Zinadine Zidane scores twice as France wins first World Cup beating Brazil, 3-0.
