Our past has shaped the present by many things in history including sports, here is how sports marked our history today.

Baseball

  • In 1943 Giants and Phillies strand record 30 base runners, Giants wins 10-6.

Basketball

  • In  1994 a court upholds NBA salary cap and draft rights.

Boxing

  • In 1951 Jersey Joe Walcott at 37 becomes oldest to win heavyweight championship.

Football

  • In  1969 Joe Namath agrees to sell interest in Bachelors 3 to stay in NFL.

Golf

  • In 1896 US Open Men’s Golf, American-based Scot James Foulis wins by 3 strokes ahead of Englishman Horace Rawlins.

Miscellaneous

  • In 1942 the first legal New Jersey horse race in 50 years; Garden State Park track opens.

Olympics

  • In  1976 Nadia Comăneci becomes the first gymnast in Olympic Games history to score a perfect 10 score (total 7) at Montreal Games.
